Our Story
A fresh perspective, 500 years in the making.
We believe we were destined to have a fresh perspective. That’s because our story started centuries ago in Melaka, Malaysia. At that time, our great-great-great-great-great-great grandparents probably thought they knew everything about food. But then, they welcomed a world of seafaring traders to their shores; the Indians, Chinese, Middle Easterns, Portuguese, and Dutch brought with them boatloads of ideas on architecture, philosophy, design and especially food. As you’d expect, there was an amazing medley of cultural techniques mixed with local ingredients that would influence our family members for generations to come.
Fast-forward a few hundred years. Same city. Same family. But this time, it’s our turn. By our grandparents’ side, we eagerly learned to make noodles by hand, craft sauces from scratch, and how to balance the robust spices with delicate aromatics. The lessons were humbling and recipes were complex but the flavours were almost indescribable. Wanting to cook for others, we brought everything we learned to Canada.
Then, our perspective was refreshed again. Just when we thought we knew everything about Malaysian food, the culture in Vancouver influenced us. Now, it’s not just about what we make, but how we make it. All of our food is still made by hand and from scratch but now everything is fresh and organic wherever possible. Our bowls still brim with the aromas of lemongrass and blue ginger, but the take-away containers are all biodegradable. And we make sure we’re recycling, composting and saving as much energy as possible.
Food is an echo of our beliefs. Like our family in the 1500s, we welcome all people, cultures and influences into our kitchens. We believe it makes us, our world, and our food better when we do. And, that’s why we believe Freshbowl will always have a fresh perspective.

Freshly prepared and processed on site, our vegetables are at forefront of our dishes. Nutrient dense, and local wherever possible. The use of purple cabbage, kale and sweet potatoes bring balance to our dishes. Paired with your choice of antibiotic free, thoughtfully selected meat and ocean-wise seafood.
No fuss, just homestyle cooking.
All of our sauces are made from scratch and all in-house. Catering to a diverse group, we have something for everyone. Take comfort in knowing we have vegan, vegetarian & gluten-free options available. Feel free to ask us about it.
